Understanding mesh count
Mesh count is the single most important choice you make about a screen — and the most misunderstood. In short: lower counts lay down more ink, higher counts hold finer detail. Here is the whole idea on one scale.
Low counts (32–61/cm)
Fewer, thicker threads mean bigger openings and a heavier ink deposit. Ideal for underbases, high-density and specialty inks, and bold spot-colour work on garments.
Mid counts (77–120/cm)
The everyday textile range. A balance of ink deposit and detail that suits most t-shirt and general garment printing — the sweet spot for a lot of shops.
High counts (150–180/cm+)
More, finer threads give smaller openings, a thinner deposit and much sharper detail. The choice for halftones, fine graphics and four-colour process.

Everything a newcomer needs to decode mesh counts and choose well.
What does a mesh count like "120/305-34" actually mean?
The first number is threads per centimetre (120), the second is the equivalent threads per inch (305), and the last is the thread diameter in microns (34). Higher thread counts mean finer detail and a thinner ink deposit; lower counts lay down more ink.
What mesh count should I use?
As a rough guide: 32–61/cm for underbases, high-density and specialty inks; 77–120/cm for general t-shirt and textile work; 150/cm and above for fine detail, halftones and process printing. The ink and artwork drive the choice — tell us both and we'll advise.
Why is some mesh yellow and some white?
Yellow (dyed) mesh absorbs stray UV light during exposure, preventing it scattering and undercutting fine detail — so it holds sharper edges. White mesh is fine for bolder work. Anti-halation emulsions let you get sharp results on white mesh too.
Higher mesh count — does that mean better?
Not by itself. A high count gives finer detail but a thinner ink film, which can look weak for bold designs or on dark garments. The "best" count is the one matched to your ink and artwork, not simply the highest number.
